ETH Zurich is a top-ranked continental European university with a focus on the natural and engineering sciences. The Center for Comparative and International Studies (CIS) at ETH Zurich is a joint research and teaching center of ETHZ and the University of Zurich. With 15 faculty members and approximately 150 PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and other staff, it is the leading political science research center in Switzerland focusing on international relations and comparative political analysis. It is also an interdisciplinary institution where historians and economists work alongside political scientists. CIS has ample experience with conducting large-scale collaborative projects. It has been the leading house for a National Center for Competence in Research (NCCR) on Democracy since 2005, which involves almost 100 researchers in 24 projects from 20 institutions. Since Switzerland joined the EU’s research cooperation programmes, ETH Zurich has been a strong and successful participant.
