
Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) is on the list of the world’s 300 best universities in the social sciences elaborated by QS Top Universities. The political and social science department has also received an excellent ranking by the German CHE university ranking. FUB’s “International Network University” strategy for the future received an award in the Excellence Initiative of the German federal government for its development of research alliances, the promotion of junior scholars and scientists, and its support for international cooperative arrangements. Researchers of FUB participate presently in 60 research projects funded under the EU’s 7th Framework Programme. These projects are part of approximately 3,300 running research projects supported by other funding organizations, including the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Volkswagen Foundation, or the Thyssen Foundation. Third party funding amounts to approximately 110 million Euro per annum.
