On 24th February 2015, the Permanent Representations of France, the Federal Republic of Germany and Poland to the European Union in Brussels organized a joint conference on current challenges and prospects of the European Neighbourhood Policy. MAXCAP's scientific coordinator Julia Langbein, Freie Universität Berlin, contributed to the panel discussion on how to adapt the goals and tools of the ENP in light of the recent crisis in the EU neighbourhood, sharing insights from recent MAXCAP research.
The conference brought together representatives of the European Commission, of the French, German and Polish foreign ministries as well as of several European think tanks and research centers. The speakers critically discussed implications of the current Ukraine crisis, possibilities and prospects for sustainable conflict settlement as well as the role of EU-Russia relations in this regard. They identified future agendas and priorities for the ENP, particularly the Eastern Partnership, highlighting a current need for the adjustment of its main instruments.
