This website of Nicola Jentzsch (Free University of Berlin, JFKI) is devoted to the the U.S. economy. Students get an overview of the economic players and the important sources for material on the U.S. economy. The side is organized according to the major topics discussed in the seminars at JFKI.

1. Executive Branch

The executive branch is just one of several players in the U.S. political economy, such as Congress, the Federal Reserve, the judicial branch and the private sector in form of private and public interest groups.  

U.S. President 

Presents his Economic Report and usually hopes for the best. 

Council of Economic Advisors

The team of advisers on all sorts of economic issues

National Economic Council

The coordination and advisory body in the Executive Office of the President. Advises the President on U.S. and global economic policy.

USTR

The USTR is the chief negotiator in U.S. trade negotiations. 

2. Legislative Branch

Next to the President and his Executive branch is the Congress. As you now, the U.S. is a system of checks and balances. In the Congress, especially developments the discussions in the committees are of importance.The committees, of course, change according to the topics debated.   

U.S. Congress 

This is a gateway to the legislative branch with the House of Representatives and the Senate.

3. Judicial Branch

This branch is important in terms of enforcement and implementation of laws. As you know, the U.S. are a common law country, as opposed to countries such as France and Germany. Hence, the judicial systems work differently.

4. Independent Regulatory Bodies

Based upon their administative as well as institutional independence, the bodies are major players next to executive and legislative branch.

The worlds most powerful central bank

Federal Trade Commission

This is an independent agency that reports to the Congress

There are some other regulatory agencies that would be worth it to mention. Hence the side will be expanded as soon as I have more time!
