Kleier

...hmmm ...wo kommt der Name nun eigentlich wirklich her?

!identified as Henry Teske from son John J.'s death certificate however baptismal record of Johann Julius Teske, 8 sep 1839, Gellen, Kreis Neustettin, Pommern, has him as Wilhelm;from dea th record of his son Johann Gottlieb, April 1835, Gellen, he is Martin Wilhelm, though throughout all other parish records he is simply Wilhelm, Pielburg parish, 1812, Martin Wilh. Teske,f rom Dummerfitz, among confirmands; Lutheran practice was to confirm at Easter, not before ae. 14, rarely after ae. 15; therefore he must have been born after Easter 1797 and before Easter1 798, Dummerfitz is just across (narrow) Pielburger See from Linde; S. of Lanzen, SE of Gellen, first appearance in Gellen: marriage 28 nov 1823 to Dorathea Luise Gluske (4 months beforebi rth of 1st child), at marriage, birth of first child & subsequently, he is knecht, farm laborer; however, by 1839 death of father-in-law, wife is referred to as "farmers' wife Tesken;"in 1 869 marr. rec. of son Friedrich, referred to as Altsitzer, farmer and inkeeper, no other Teskes in parish of Gellen, so his family is likely from elsewhere; prob. not from Dummerfitz, since no birth record there in nearby Linde, parish of Pielburg to the south (parish records from 1716 through 19th c.), as early as 1731 one Martin, Teschke married Catharina (Sidow?); in 1787 Linde seems to have had a Teske village mayor; from ca. 1790 to 1806 Christian Teske and Johanna Henriette Christine Nehring baptized several children in Linde, where they m. 11may 1803;w itnesses at baptisms, included Dorothea Charlotte Tesken (1802), Martin Teske (1805), Joh. Fridr. Tescke (1804), Anna Luisa Tesken (1799, who married Paul Lemcke 1798 in Linde), DorotheaTe sken (1789); in 1823, at baptism in Gellen of Henriette Berndt, one Johann Teske from Linde was a witness, who is Charlotte Louise (T)esken from Sandort, ae. 28, m. Johan FerdinandGluske,a e. 27, in Gellen 16 nov 1821?, 6 nov 1823 a Johann Teske from Linde at baptism of Henriette Friederike Berndt in Gellen, 2 may 1859 Ludwig Teske died, ae. 44, in Wulfflatzke, leavingwife&3 children, including 1 dau. born 1844 in Pielburg, Royal Colony Wilhelmshorst:a Peter & other Geskes, involved with Schuelkes 1790's on,seem a distinctly different lineage group; butat1839 baptism of Johann Julius Teske, one witness is Henriette Nitz geb. Schuelken since his first son was Carl Friedrich, one might predict his father's name to be some variation ofCarl/Friedr ich, Standard explanation is that the -ske is a Slavicdiminutive (like -ski or -sky); but what is Te- that it might take a diminutive? The IGI shows Teskes in the Netherlands, 17th c.E arly 1997: Christopher Meeske (sommelier at Patina), family, from Frisia. It may be that the Teskes were Frisians, settled in Pommern.
