Course is taught in German, but most of the material is in English. This course is an introduction to economic policy and the political economy of the U.S. We discuss the role of the government in the economy, as well as specific fields of the U.S. economy. Some of the questions posed in this course are: How did the U.S. manage to gain a budget surplus in the late 1990s? Why is the unemployment rate in the U.S. lower than in Europe? Was there are „New Economy" and which economic repercussions followed from the 1987 and 2001 crashs? We also discuss the social security system and compare it to Germany & Europe.
