Conference location
The 2004 Berlin Conference on the Human Dimensions of Global
Environmental Change will take place at the Freie Universität
Berlin, which is located in the Dahlem area in the south-western
district of Berlin-Zehlendorf.
The registration desk on Friday morning, 3 December, will be in the
Silberlaube, which is located on university campus:

A separate email as well as the website will inform you of the exact
location of the panel and plenary rooms as well as the registration
desk. At the registration desk you will then also receive as part of
your personal conference folder a detailed map of the conference
venue.

Arriving by air:
There are three airports in Berlin: Tegel (TXL), Schönefeld (SXF),
and Tempelhof (THF. Most international flights arrive at Tegel or
Schönefeld. Both airports can be reached by public transportation.
From Tegel Airport, take the Airport Express Bus X9 to Station
Zoologischer Garten, locally also known as Station "Zoo" (Bahnhof
Zoo). From Schönefeld Airport, take the metropolitan train (S-Bahn,
marked by green "S" signs) S 9 to Station Zoologischer Garten. From
Station Zoo, you can either take a taxi or use public transportation
to get to your hotel. The section on hotel information below
explains about how to get to each hotel from Station Zoo.
Arriving by train:
All trains arrive or stop at Station “Zoologischer Garten”, locally
also known as Station "Zoo" (Bahnhof Zoo). From Station Zoo, either

How to get to the conference
venue:
If you travel by public transportation, take either the subway train
no. 1 (U-Bahn in German, marked by blue "U" signs), or bus no. 110.
Exit at the station "Thielplatz", which is within walking distance
from the conference venue. Once you arrive at Thielplatz station on
5 December, there will be signs guiding you from the subway/bus
station to the conference location.

Conference schedule and format
The programme is available for
download from the conference website. The registration desk will
open on Friday, 3rd December at 8.00 a.m. The conference begins at
9.00 a.m. and will end on Saturday, 4th December at 6.00 p.m. We
will have both plenary and panel sessions. Panels will last 1 ¾
hours each. Most panels will consist of three presentations,
followed by a discussion.
Submission of completed
papers/Proceedings
Deadline for submission of papers is the 15th of November 2004 to be
sent by email to bc2004@zedat.fu-berlin.de in word or rtf-formatting.
Upon entry we will post them on the conference website. All
abstracts have already been posted on the conference website. All
papers will be made accessible during the conference. According to
the conference all papers will be reviewed for publication as part
of the conference proceedings.
Registration fee
Registration fees can be paid either in advance (Euros 100/Euros 25
reduced rate) or at the conference desk (Euros 130/Euros 25
reduced), as indicated in the registration form. In order to assist
our planning in preparing conference folders, catering etc., it
would be appreciated if all participants registered by fax as early
as possible, best by the 15th of November.

Unfortunately, we cannot reimburse any travel expenses or
accommodation costs. Furthermore we do not provide any health
insurances or fees i.e. relating to visa matters.
The weather in Berlin
Temperatures are rather low in
December, quite often as low as between 0°C and 5°C (between 32°F
and 41°F). Snowfall in early December is quite unlikely, but still a
possibility. Rain, however, is not uncommon.
