Multimedia-Anwendungen im Internet
In 1998 I got my Masters (M.A.) in Information Sciences at the Freie Universität Berlin in Germany. As the Web was originally meant to make it easier to exchange information between scientists I decided to put up a HTML version (converted with Adobe FrameMaker - and thus needs some hand tuning) of my Master-Thesis (in German only). The six main aspects covered are:
- History and structure of the Internet as the Pre-Information Superhighway
- the relevance of the Information Superhighway as the global network for multimedia applications
- the World Wide Web as today's existing and global multimedia enabling technology
- AV-Programms for use on the Internet
- Apple Computer's QuickTime Media Layer as a framework and technological concept for the integration of time based data on the Inter-PC (QT 3 and the iMac weren't born yet, when I wrote this ;-)
- the MBONE as a virtual backbone of the Internet, which by using multicasting is an important concept for distributed multimedia.
Originally written as a paper for an advanced Cyberspace seminar in Information Sciences at the Freie Universität Berlin/Germany together with my girlfriend Melanie, this now has become a book. The book gives you an overview about the input- and output devices as well as the common uses of VR systems. It does also cover VRML and QuickTime VR. Several chapters are available online as Adobe Acrobat PDF files. (Currently not in HTML.)
Skript zur Medien-Integration - Software, Hardware, Humanware
This paper, I wrote in 1992 - it covers almost everything in terms of multimedia development. It needs an update by now and certainly a translation to English! Still very useful though.
Das Internet - Entwicklungsgeschichte und Dienste
Unfortunately I did not have the time to translate it to English, yet. Be pati ent - or test your German. ;-)
The Unofficial Videoconferencing Project
This project actually did not happen within the university but outside. Hey, what did you expect from a video-conferencing project ? ;-)
VRML Index to Attila's Virtual Home
To be viewed with a VRML-Browser or Plug-in. It's a VRML 1.0 world.
A local starter's page to VRML (Virtual Reality Modelling Language)
The page for some QuickTime™ and MPEG movie files.
Here, you get a few external links to cool web-sites that cover VR.
Attila: King of the Huns (406?-453).
Attila S. Suiçmez is an Information-Scientist (M.A.) who graduated at the Freie Universität Berlin with a Master's in Information Science, Journalism / Communication Science and Film.
His Master Thesis covers emerging multimedia applications and technologies in the Internet.
Meet him on the Internet as "sunny", "vamp" ... or as "attila".
He is developing "multimedia applications" using Apple Macintosh Computers since 1991. Basically, his projects have to deal with audio-/video-integration (QuickTime, MPEG), speech-recognition, CD-ROM and Hypertext (WWW) development. 3D (VRML), VR (QTVR) as well as streaming audio and video were the "hype" in 1996 and 1997. It's getting better, bigger and faster!
He believes, the Techno-Culture's outlet will have a strong impact on society in the sense of use- and helpful technological innovations. It is in within the responsibility of developers that the use of new emerging technologies will lead to new products from which society will be able to benefit. Let's move on!
Melanie is the best soul on the planet. She insures my "real-life extensions" are still functioning when returning from cyberspace ... (Do U believe everything U read?)
He loves the United States of America and its people. The only multi-cultural nation! (See it, feel it, love it -- live it!)
