In this section on geostatistics we are going to work with the following spatial data sets.
Lake bathymetry and chemical sediment data of Lake Rangsdorf. Lake Rangsdorf is located south of Berlin, at the southern margin of the Teltow Plateau and a former proglacial drainage system, the “Rangsdorf-Thyrow-Abflussbahn”. Lake Rangsdorf is an eutrophic to hypertrophic lake suffering from heavy algae blooms in the summer season. Lake bathymetry and chemical sediment data of Lake Rangsdorf was obtained during a field campaign in 2017.
Weather station data: We use annual weather data, primarily
temperature and rainfall data to demonstrate different interpolation
methods. The data is provided by Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) (German Weather
Service). The data is available on the DWD data portal. In particular we show how to
download weather data from the DWD within an R session by using the rdwd
package.
SRTM digital elevation model (DEM) for Germany. The data was retrieved from OPENDEM on November 12, 2022.
