Age and General Facies Development of the Ota Limestone (Estremadura, Portugal).-
2nd International Symposium on Jurassic Stratigraphy, Proceedings, pp 917-932, Lisbon.
Micropaleontological evidence reveals that major parts of the Ota Limestone (eastern Lusitanian Basin) are of Upper Kimmeridgian age. In the Monte Redondo region, a "Middle" Oxfordian exposure exists (Vale Forno Limestone).
Reefal, intraclastic, tidal and lagoonal facies replace each other from east to west and probably formed in a platform setting on a horst block, indicating development to a shallow water carbonate bank: Carbonate sedimentation occurred simultaneously with surrounding clastic sedimentation (Abadia formation).
