{"id":1526,"date":"2004-08-11T02:59:00","date_gmt":"2004-08-11T02:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/userpage.fu-berlin.de\/~frers\/cgi-bin\/blosxom.cgi\/socialsci\/040810-Merleau-Ponty.html"},"modified":"2010-01-23T12:20:13","modified_gmt":"2010-01-23T11:20:13","slug":"new-insights-new-style","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/userpage.fu-berlin.de\/frers\/blog\/?p=1526","title":{"rendered":"New insights, new style."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After I was told for the zillionth time that I am proceeding in a phenomenological way in my studies (both on the <a href=\"http:\/\/userpage.fu-berlin.de\/~frers\/norm_space.html\" title=\"short summary of my diploma thesis on the Marlene-Dietrich-Platz in Berlin\">Potsdamer Platz<\/a> and currently on <a href=\"http:\/\/userpage.fu-berlin.de\/~frers\/dissprojekt.html\" title=\"expose for my dissertation (in German)\">train stations and passenger terminals<\/a>) I finally decided to actually get acquainted with this thing called phenomenology. Several people in the post-graduate college recommended reading <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Maurice_Merleau-Ponty\" title=\"wikipedia entry for the french philosopher\">Maurice Merleau-Ponty<\/a>&#8216;s <em>Phenomenology of Perception<\/em>. Perception is my business and my passion so this is the book I bought. It seems I won&#8217;t regret this decision. Not only does the name Maurice Merleau-Ponty have a very pleasant french ring to it, the book also has a beautiful cover! Nonetheless, the content is even better. A small citation for those German blog readers:<\/p>\n<p><q>Was immer ich &#8211; sei es auch durch die Wissenschaft &#8211; wei\u00df von der Welt, wei\u00df ich aus einer Sicht, die die meine ist, bzw. aus einer Welterfahrung, ohne die auch alle Symbole der Wissenschaft nichtssagend blieben oder vielmehr w\u00e4ren. Das Universum der Wissenschaft gr\u00fcndet als Ganzes auf dem Boden der Lebenswelt, und wollen wir die Wissenschaft selbst in Strenge denken, ihren Sinn und ihre Tragweite genau ermessen, so gilt es allem voran, auf jene Welterfahrung zur\u00fcckzugehen, deren blo\u00df sekund\u00e4rer Ausdruck die Wissenschaft bleibt. [S. 4]<\/q><\/p>\n<p>Judging from my current level of joyful involvement with this book, you can expect some more citations in the coming weeks. Weeks? Yes, classic books I do read slowly &#8211; usually I don&#8217;t read more than about 20-30 pages or the equivalent of one or two new ideas per day.
