Setting up the INLET corpus system (formerly cqp@fu)

The following description assumes that you are signed in to the Login server with your ZEDAT account using the Terminal (on Linux or macOS) or a shell emulator like PuTTY (on windows).

Basic setup

If you have never made manual changes to your .bash_profile and/or if you don't know what a .bash_profile is, copy the following code to your command line and hit <ENTER>:

sh /home/s/structeng/cqp.sh

This will run a shell script (a small program) that will create a .bash_profile file with the right settings.

If you have made changes to your .bash_profile, use the following code instead (this will leave your changes intact):

sh /home/s/structeng/scripts/firth.sh

This will run a shell script adding settings to your existing .bash_profile.

Both scripts will set up your ZEDAT account so that it has access to the Corpus Workbench and some classic English corpora.

Then sign out of your ZEDAT account and sign in again. You can now start the Corpus Workbench by typing cqp on the command line and hitting <ENTER>.

Adding corpora

We have a growing collection of corpora that you can give yourself access to by signing in to your ZEDAT account, typing (or copying and pasting) the relevant command from the list below to your command line, hitting <ENTER>, and signing out and in again.

  1. To add various English language corpora, type add-fjord.sh
  2. To add some German corpora, type add-bucht.sh
  3. To add various corpora for other languages from the Leipzig Corpus Collection, type add-bahia.sh

There are some corpora that we only make accessible to students who need them for specific projects. Ask your instructor for details.
