INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION
QSF-L--Mailinglist "Qualitative Sozialforschung"

Learning from the variety of English language mailinglists, I initiated a German list for qualitative researchers. QSF-L is a contact and information forum, and all problems descending within the wide and sometimes rattling field of qualitative research may be discussed.

Link Collections

Also in 1999 I started to provide comprehensive link collections on
  • Qualitative Research: Within psychologie.de--a cost-free online-service (not only) for psychologists, existing since 1997--I am editing the special rubric Qualitative Sozialforschung. Main features are: university departments; links to fulltexts, journals and institutions interesting for qualitative researchers besides their disciplinary affilliation, etc.

  • Internet Resources for Social Scientists: This collection provides information about searching the Internet, about online texts and online research, etc.

PUBLISHING
Forum Qualitative Sozialforschung / Forum: Qualitative Social Research (FQS)

FQS is an interdisciplinary, multilingual online journal on qualitative research. The main aim of FQS is to promote discussion and cooperation between qualitative researchers from different nations and social science disciplines. Since January 2000, many interesting texts on qualitative research have been published. All full texts are available free of cost.

Selected Publications

Besides editing FQS, I am also involved in other publishing projects (for example as Co-operating Editor of HSR -- "Historical Social Research / Historische Sozialforschung" or as a member of the Editoral Board of the book-series Digitale Welten, published by Leske + Budrich, Germany).

TEACHING & RESEARCH
NetzWerkstatt

After advising students in qualitative methods within the PW for a long time, I tried to use this concept also for on-line working groups: Participants are preparing their diploma or their PhD in different disciplines, using a Grounded Theory approach or other qualitative methods. We communicate via a mailinglist and via chat sessions. As we some times are working with sensitive interview data, the list and the chat (and also files and archives of this group) are only available for group members.

UniServity

"UniServity is the UK's largest Internet portal for students. The company was founded in February 1999 to become synonymous with the experience of university by providing students with pioneering Web-based services and content. Its strong links with student unions and faculty staff throughout the UK have enabled UniServity to pinpoint the academic, social and career needs of its members prior to developing its range of innovative services. In order to ensure the highest quality Web-based content the company has recruited Campus Directors from the student population of universities as well as a Faculty Chair consisting of University lecturers and professors." I am participating in UniServity as a Chair for qualitative research methods.
