| Dr. Müller studied economics and agricultural economics at the University of Minnesota and Stanford University, where he received a Ph.D. in 1972. | ||||
|
Dr. Müller began his work on the economics of industrial organization and on regulatory issues, while he was a research fellow at the Science Center Berlin and a lecturer at the University of Bonn. |

| He has since then been involved in a number of policy studies while being associated with the University of Sussex (SERC), the Ecole Polytechnique (CRG) in Paris and since 1981 the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) in Berlin. After initially being the responsible research director for transportation studies, he is now working in the area of industrial economics and competition policy. He has also been Visiting Research Professor of Industrial Organization at INSEAD, Fontainebleau Visiting Professor at Stanford University and Affiliate Professor of the Berlin Programme of Stanford Universtity. In 1991/1992, he was holder of the DAAD/-University of Toronto Chair for German and European Studies at the University of Toronto. He was on leave in 1993/94 from the DIW as Senior Economist of the Telecommunication Developement Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). He also holds a chair in Economics at the FHW Berlin, a business school with a long tradition in interdisciplinary management training. | ||||
| Dr. Müller was a past president of EARIE, the European Association for Research in Industrial Economics and is the European Regional Coordinator of ITS, the International Telecommunications Society. His publications cover the area of applied economics and regulatory policy, as well as special telecommunication and information topics. He is author of a number of books: Concentration in West Germany (Schwarz, 1974), Government Regulation (Nomos, 1979), Lessons from Deregulation (Nomos, 1984), European Telecommunications Organizations (Nomos, 1989), Mobile Tele-communication in Emerging European Markets (Artech House 1995), Telecommunications Take-Off in Transition Countries (with K.-E. Schenk and J. Kruse, Avebury 1997). | ||||
