"Scullay."
The briefest glimpse of movement to her right forgotten, Scully
went to her partner.
Tucking her gun away quickly, she put her hand on his should to
stop him from moving.
"Lay back." She directed as she swept her gaze over him,
stopping when she saw the torn fabric of his shirt and the
slowly expanding stain of blood. She let out a short breath as
her hands moved down his front to examine the wound.
"Mulder, you're hurt." A tiny part of her chided herself for
stating a fact he probably already knew. But then, that was her.
Dana Scully, Stator of the Obvious.
It was a nasty wound, but probably nothing worse than some of
the things Mulder had already experienced in life. He probably
had a broken rib or two to go with the bleeding, but nothing
that put him in immediate danger.
"You should have seen her." Mulder nearly sighed, equal parts
awe and pain. Well, then again, knowing him, it was probably
more awe than pain, but she was sure the injury did factor into
it a little bit. She tried to focus on the bleeding, but for
some reason, Mulder wanted eye contact. He kept squirming to
make her look at him. When she did, she saw something in his
eyes she wasn't accustomed to. It was pure adoration.
"She was beautiful."
"Yeah, well," she broke the eye contact and returned her
attention to the wound. "She just about ripped your lungs out."
She said as flatly as possible.
Mulder moved forward, but she caught his shoulder and pushed him
back.
"Come on." She mumbled, trying to ease him down. But he caught
her around the waist.
"Mulder, please." She said, but he didn't let go. Instead he
pulled her closer.
Scully tried to jerk back but, despite the cut, he had her
tight. She was so surprised, her brain couldn't seem to think
what to do. She looked at his face.
The adoration from just seconds earlier was gone. In its place,
was a look she could only describe as animalistic. He didn't
look vicious but his gaze was intense. Hungry.
She'd nearly contorted her face into an expression of fear and
confusion before he pulled her downward and his lips crashed
into hers.
They hadn't been partners for very long, but Scully would have
been lying had she said she hadn't imagined a kiss. Mulder was
an affectionate man, warm, caring. She had imagined him to be a
tender kisser.
But now he kissed her with a ferocity and heat she'd never felt
before. All she felt from him was need. He needed more.
For a moment, she toyed with the idea of giving him more. Her
lips parted, inviting his tongue to flicker over her teeth. She
let her eyes close. Let herself fall into the kiss. Fall into
the abyss that was Mulder. She even moaned ever so slightly into
his mouth.
But then she relaxed her hand and it slid gently down his side.
They both pulled back at the same moment, her due to the sudden
moisture of his blood on her hands once more, and him because of
the sudden stab of pain she knew her brush with the gouge had
given him.
His eyes once again held their usual sharp intelligence. No more
hunger.
She was almost sad to see it go.
Almost.
"Sorry." Mulder grunted, as he laid back, finally exhausted.
Voices approached in the distance, echoing off the warehouse
walls.
Scully stood, ready to greet them.
"Don't worry about it." She said.
