Small scale farming in Poland – threats and opportunities
In this paper author tries to discuss the problem of continuity of existence
of small scale farming in Poland. Polish definitions of small scale farming,
small scale family farming and agricultural plot are given. Several
reasons of persistence of small scale farming in contemporary Poland are
taken into consideration: inheritance tradition, surviving purposes, part-time
farming or withdrawal of part-time farming possibilities. The subject of
the paper is also to explain lack of Polish state policy towards this sector
of national economy regarding anti-state aggressive campain of small farm
holders. In the paper author tries to identify threats and opportunities
coming from persisting small scale farming system in Poland. Main threats
are related with lack of investment, education and enterpreneur spirit.
Main opportunities are identified in the field of organic farming and agritourism.
