The appointee will be required to contribute to teaching 
and research in some or all of the following areas:
psychophysiology, chronic mental disorders, physiological
psychology and medical psychology.

The successful applicant must have a PhD in psychology 
with primary expertise in either psychophysiology or 
psychobiological aspects of clinical psychology. Preference
will be given to applicants who have demonstrated 
experience in both of these areas and have interests in
some or all of the following: measurement of event-related
potentials, neuropsychology, psychopharmacology, major 
mental disorders and medically related psychological 
disorders. Preference will be given to applicants who have 
an excellent research record and/or extensive relevant 
clinical experience. A fully equipped ERP laboratory exists
in the department, and if the appointee has expertise in 
this area, responsibilities will include the supervision
of the laboratory.

The appointee must hold a PhD in psychology (or have 
submitted) and will be required to contribute to teaching 
and research in the area of lifespan developmental 
psychology.

Preference will be given to a person who has demonstrated 
excellence in research using qualitative and/or quantitative
methods and who has interests in one or more areas related
to adolescence, applied developmental psychology, 
personality and cognitive development.

The person is available for a fixed-term of five years with 
the possibility of conversion to tenure.

The Department of Psychology wishes to appoint a Research
Fellow/Lecturer, the title of the post being determined
by agreement with the successful candidate. The person 
appointed must be an active researcher, have good quality
publications appropriate for the forthcoming Research 
Assessment Exercise, and be willing to take up appointment
at or before 31st December 1995. Initial salary will be up
to 24,000 pounds per annum.

This is a five year post in the first instance. It will 
appeal to colleagues who wish to devote a substantial 
proportion of their time to scholarship and research.

About the Department:
The Department of Psychology has grown rapidly over the
last few years. There are now 15 full-time and 5 part-time 
teaching staff. Some 70 students are recruited to the 
Honours degree in psychology and the entry requirements 
are among the highest in the University. The Department is 
proud of its longstanding tradition of high quality teaching
and relations with students are excellent. We have an open
door policy for students.

The Department is responsible for the MSc Applied Psychology
(Learning Disability) and the MSc Child Forensic Studies: 
Psychology and Law. It also contributes to the teaching and 
the course development of the distance learning courses 
(BSc in Policing and Police Studies and MSc in Criminal 
Justice Studies) offered by the Institute of Police and
CriminologicalStudies.

The Department is recognised by the ESRC for Mode A 
postgraduate research training and currently has 7 full-
time MPhil/PhD students and 12 part-time. There are 8 
research staff. The Department has committed itself to a 
research strategy which includes securing external research
money and regular publication in refereed journals.

The Sarah Duffen Centre (Director Professor Sue Buckley) is
an internationally renowned centre which conducts research
into Down's Syndrome and provides an advisory service for
children and parents. A Centre for Forensic Psychology 
(Director Professor Ray Bull) is currently being established.

10:           POSTDOCTORAL POSITION, DOWN'S SYNDROME

We still have a vacancy for a  psychologist, to join  a 
study investigating the relationship between visual and 
cognitive development in infants and young children with 
Down's Syndrome.
 
The study will follow an established cohort of children in
South and West Wales, monitoring cognitive development 
(by Bayley Scales and other appropriate measures) along
side visual function (assessed by an Optometrist, who is 
already appointed).  The study involves home visits, so 
a driving licence is essential.
 
Applications from psychologist with a background in infant 
development, or special needs, would be particularly welcome.
