01: Programmer (Short-term contract)

Experienced C and C++ programmer required for 6 months
(possibly extendible for a few months) to work on projects
concerned with the control and analysis of high-density ERP
brain imaging experiments, neural network modelling of 
cortical functions, and parallel distributed processing
models of eye movement control.  Interest or experience in
one or more of these areas is an advantage, but the most 
important factor is strong programming skills.  A degree in
Computer Science, Cognitive Science or a related area
is preferred but not essential.  Familiarity with both 
Macintosh and PC's is desirable.  The position is available
now and the successful applicant will be required to start
as soon as possible.  Salary from 11,673 to 14,901 plus 
London weighting depending on age and experience.

02: Postdoctoral Researcher (2 years)

One Human Frontiers Scientific Foundation funded postdoctoral
position is available from next spring for 2 years, possibly
extendible by up to 6 months.  Applicants should have a 
strong research interest in the neural basis of cognition, 
especially as applied to the development of face processing 
skills or visual attention in human infants.  A PhD in a 
related topic is essential.  Experience of working with 
normal or brain-damaged infants and/or with ERP studies of 
cognition would be an advantage, but is not essential.

03:          RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

Applications are invited for a Research Fellowship in the
Centre for Human Development and Learning in the School of
Education.  The Research Fellow will be expected to make a
significant and complementary contribution to one of the
research projects/programmes currently in progress in the
Centre.  This will be a significant responsibility, in 
collaboration with the principal researcher. The Fellow will
also pursue his or her chosen programme of research.

Applicants should have a first degree in psychology and have
(or be about to complete) a PhD in an area of developmental
psychology relevant to the interests of the Centre.
The post is funded for three years and the successful
candidate will be expected to start on the earliest 
convenient date.  Salary will be on the
Research Fellow 1A scale (#14,317 - #21,519).

The Department of Psychology at the University of Surrey 
has a research studentship available for a candidate who 
wishes to study for a research degree (MPhil/PhD) in 
Psychology. The studentship must be taken up before 
December 1st, 1995.

research assessment exercise, and is the largest centre for

developmental, cognitive, perceptual, social, environmental, 
health, clinical, occupational, organisational psychology and

05:          RESEARCH ASSOCIATE POSITION 
Institution: University of Wales, School of Psychology
Location:    Cardiff, UK

This is a new position made possible by a grant from the
Economic and Social Research Council. The position 
involves the management of a research
project on psychological aggression in marriage that is
grounded in research on social cognition and in research on
marital dysfunction. Data collection involves laboratory
assessments of marital functioning and a longitudinal
component that involves tracking couples over a 12 month
period. 

The person assuming this post will work closely with the
grant holder in implementing the project, analyzing the data,
and preparing manuscripts for publication. Good interpersonal
skills are required for the recruitment, running, and
management of participants. Although not essential,
familiarity with the use of PCs in data collection,
programming skills, and expertise in data analysis would be
an advantage. Every attempt will also be made to ensure that
the Reseach Associate is able to pursue his or her research
interests.

06:          ASSISTANT PROFESSOR(S), COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE

The University of Arizona is seeking applicants for 
faculty positions in cognitive neuroscience, at the 
assistant or early associate professor level.  We seek 
individuals who would be stimulated by the highly 
interactive Cognitive Neuroscience Program, currently 
funded by Center grants from the McDonnell-Pew 
Program and by the Flinn Foundation.  Preference will 
be given to candidates: (1) who focus on the neural bases 
of cognition but who have a knowledge of clinical 
neuropsychology; (2) who specialize in clinical 
neuropsychology with a strong grounding in human 
cognition and neuroanatomy, including human brain 
imaging; or (3) who investigate the computational bases 
of cognitive functions in humans or animals.

07:           DEPUTY DIRECTOR

APS is creating a new position of Deputy Director to join 
our "lean and nice" ranks.  We are looking for someone with 
vision, energy, and a commitment to psychological science 
who is willing to devote these qualities to the continued 
growth and expansion of the Society.  The Deputy will be 
involved in virtually all aspects of Society affairs, but 
with particular responsibilities in: expanding the APS 
publications program, encouraging greater member involvement 
in APS activities, continuing the growth in APS membership 
and the APS convention. The Deputy will also be involved with 
proposing and developing new APS programs more generally.  
In carrying out these responsibilities, the Deputy Director 
will oversee staff and play a central role in the development
of APS policy, both internal and external.

QUALIFICATIONS:  A Ph.D. in psychology is required.  A record
of successful administration and management is highly 
desirable.  Excellent oral/written communications skills are
a must.  Salary and benefits will depend on experience.  APS 
is a non-bureaucratic, efficient, modestly staffed (10 full-
