statistics (including MANOVA and structural equation
modelling) and other areas of statistics and research
design to advanced undergraduate and post graduate students,
and to provide statistical and research design advice to
staff and PhD students.

The successful applicant must have a PhD in Psychology or
Statistics, an active research program relevant to
psychology, and experience in teaching statistics to
psychologists. Additional expertise in psychometrics or
advanced qualitative methodologies would be an advantage.

2:            JUNIOR SCIENTIST FELLOWSHIPS (20)

For the years 1996-1997, 20 Junior Scientists can
participate as fellows in the LHM programme funded by the
European Science Foundation, Strasbourg. A "Junior
Scientist" to this programme is a researcher who is
currently working on a learning research related Ph.D.
or has completed it not more then four years ago. A
fellowship allows to participate in one of the programme's
five Task Forces and comprises mainly travel support; no
other payments (such as a salary) are included. The
programme is interdisciplinary (psychology, instructional
science, machine learning) and fellowships can be given
to scientists from all European countries (not
restricted to EU nations).

The Department of Behavioral Sciences, Ben Gurion
University has an entry-level, tenure-track faculty
position available in developmental psychology. The
department is multidisciplinary offering an undergraduate
degree in behavioral sciences and graduate degrees in
psychology, sociology, and anthropology. The candidate
would be expected to teach at the undergraduate and
graduate level and to conduct research in his/her area of
specialization. Undergraduate teaching would include a large
second-year undergraduate course in developmental psychology.
The focus of the M.A. program is on early development and
our preference is for developmental psychologists with
specialization in this developmental period although other
areas of specialization will be considered. The language of
instruction is Hebrew.

Ben Gurion University is located in the south of Israel in
the desert region of the Negev. Beer Sheva is a city with
a population of 160,000 reflecting the diverse ethnic
mixture of Israel. In addition to the university, the city
includes a medical school general hospital, and
psychiatric hospital.

4:            ASSISTANT PROFESSORSHIP/LECTURESHIP

There is an assistant professorship/lectureship available
at the Department of Psychosocial Science, Division of
Developmental Psychology in Bergen, Norway. The position
is limited to a three-year period from January 1st, 1996.
Requirements are a Ph.D. or equivalent competence and a
research focus on developmental psychology. However,
doctoral students who are about to finish their thesis
are also invited to apply. The staff at the Division of
Developmental Psychology consists at the time being of one
full professor, two assistant professors and a research
fellow.

Duties of the post include a requirement to teach at
undergraduate level and some administration which
corresponds to about half of a lecturer's time. The other
half of the workload is reserved to research. There are
already several research projects running at the division
and the new staff member will have the possibility to
participate in this research if she/he wants to. The main
focus of these projects is on adolescents' development.

The salary will vary between 210,000 NKr (ca. 25300 ECU)
and 260,000 NKr (ca. 31,300 ECU) per annum depending on

5:            RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

This is a one-year project funded by ESRC entitled
"Assessing Understanding of Referential Opacity." The aim
of the project is to explore cognitive factors that link
the development of aspects of referential communication
with the development of a conception of mind in children
aged from 3 to 6 years. Knowledge of current issues
in theory of mind research and experience of testing young
children are essential; having a PhD is an advantage. The
appointed person will help design experiments, collect and
analyse data and participate in writing reports for
submission to academic journals. Position begins
October 1, 1995.

The School of Psychology is a Grade 5 research department
based in a university that has an excellent reputation for
research quality. The School of Psychology has a large
graduate school and a large group of research associates
and research fellows. The field of developmental psychology
forms one of the main areas of research within the School.

The University of North Carolina Clinical Center for the
Study of Development and Learning and the Department of
Psychiatry invite applications for postdoctoral training
in developmental disabilities with an emphasis on applied
behavior analysis.  Twelve month fellowship with a negotiable
beginning date and an optional second year of training.  The
individual must qualify for an appointment at the Clinical
Instructor level in the Department of Psychiatry.  Training
is provided in behavior assessment, treatment, and community
consultation for individuals with a wide range of
disabilities.  Emphasis is on the development of community
based services and leadership.  Research is encouraged and
expected. Requirements include a doctoral degree in
psychology.  An internship is preferred. The individual
should have a background that will allow him/her to be
eligible for psychology licensure at the conclusion of the

The Oregon Research Institute (ORI) has funding for a
postdoctoral fellow interested in working (at least
initially) with Peter Lewinsohn and Ian Gotlib in the
general area of depression.  The more specific ORI
advertisement and application instructions are
presented below.

The Oregon Research Institute (ORI) is an
independent, non-profit behavioral science research
organization that aims to provide an optimal
environment for conducting research.  Much of ORI's
work is concerned with the development and evaluation
of behavioral interventions that address signficant
societal and health-related problems.  ORI's core
research topics include chronic illness (e.g.,
diabetes), depression, families, and community
interventions to prevent academic, social and
behavioral problems of youth.

We are seeking to attract relatively new PhDs to our
established group of Research Scientists.  We are
looking for candidates who are interested in
developing a career in research.  They will be
expected to work with a variety of work groups on a
range of projects.  Their work will go beyond the
original scope of a funded project, for example,
collecting additional data or performing additional
analyses on archived data.  They will have the
opportunity to conduct pilot work associated with the
development of new proposals.  They will be expected
to write research proposals which, if funded, will
permit them to continue at ORI beyond the one- or
two-year period of Institutional support.

QUALIFICATIONS WE ARE SEEKING:
1.   Doctorate in psychology, public health,
     education, or related field.  Must have degree
     already awarded, not in process.
2.   Research interests that fit with two or more of
     ORI's core research areas.
3.   Demonstrated ability to conduct independent
     research and publish.
4.   Experience in, or potential to, obtain research
     support funds.
5.   Interest in a research career track.

WHAT WE ARE OFFERING:
1.   One- to two-year appointment, subject to
     negotiation.
2.   Annual salary based on years post PhD; (first
     five steps range from $38,052-$46,080)

for a one-year appointment in the Department of Psychology.
While this position is currently funded for one year,
Position responsibilities: Instruct undergraduate level
courses in psychology including developmental psychology,

and/or other topics in area of interest. Ability to teach
in social psychology would also be a benefit.

Qualifications: Minimum of an MS in psychology is
required, Ph.D. preferred. Eastern seeks an individual

Salary and Employment Status: This is a nine-month
