1. Call for Papers - Clinical Child Psychology and
Psychiatry

In 1996 SAGE Publications will be launching Clinical
Child Psychology and Psychiatry - a major, new journal to
bring together clinically oriented work of the highest
distinction from an international and multidisciplinary
perspective. The journal will be edited by Bryan Lask from
Great Ormond Street Hospital, London.
Clinical Child Psychology and Psychiatry will provide a
high quality forum for papers which focus on clinical and
therapeutic aspects of child and adolescent psychology and
psychiatry.

2.Call for collaborators: EEG, ERP, Sleep studies
=============================================================
The IBEGROUP (Internet based Biomedical Engineering GROUP)
invites experts from around the world to participate in the
development of a state-of-the-art biomedical data acquisition
system for EEG, ERP and SLEEP studies .
The IBEGROUP is a non-profit Internet based distributed
product development group. The current project involves the
development of a high performance 32/128 channel biomedical
data acquisition system.
The group's objectives are:
(1) Make a contribution to the science of biomedical
instrumentation
(2) Provide biomedical engineers with an opportunity to
develop interdisciplinary contacts worldwide,
(3) Introduce participants to the art of product
development, from conception to manufacturing.
(4) Produce a superior data acquisition system for
educational and research programs.
Funding will be sought through grants, sponsors, and
support from users and manufacturers of biomedical equipment.
The group seeks expertise in such areas as: low voltage, low
power, ultra low noise, fiber-optics, telemetry, analog and
digital IC design, power/signal isolation, DSP, computer
interfacing, and manufacturing.
Scientists, engineers, technologists and educators with
relevant experience, as well as users and manufacturers of
biomedical equipment, are invited to participate in this

3. Outpatient certification
=============================================================
I am interested in the issue of out-patient certification as
an alternative to compulsory in-patient treatment, or as a
vehicle to give authorisation for treatment of mentally-ill
individuals who are deteriorating and have no insight into
their own illness.
There are approximately 26 states in the USA which have such
legislation, and I am interested in hearing from physicians
who have been involved in the drafting, or implementation, of
these laws. Comments from physicians who support, or have
criticism of, this legislation, would also be appreciated. I
would also appreciate the comments of Psychiatrists or
Family Physicians from other jurisdictions who have
experience or advice.
The Ontario College of Family Physicians, a 5,000 member
organisation, is interested in lobbying for such legislation
in Canada. Out patient certification has recently been
recommended by several coroners' juries investigating the
deaths of schizophrenic patients in our province, the latest
being the death of Lester Donaldson, a schizophrenic who was
shot by police in a violent confrontation in Toronto.
Comments on issues such as the criteria for out-patient vs
in-patient certification, who would be the decision-maker
(physician or patient designate), and the success or
otherwise of such interventions, would be appreciated.

4. Looking for mental health professionals who are winter
sports enthusiasts

In February, 1994, Dr. Michael Cox and I (Dr. Gary E.
Jones) presented the first U.S.M. - Baylor College of
Mecidicine WINTER SYMPOSIUM ON APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY at CRESTED
BUTTE, COLORADO. The first year theme was clinical
psychodiagnostic assessment and presenters/faculty included
Dr. Les Morey (P.A.I.), Dr. Robert Archer (MMPI-A), Dr. Lynn
Hungerford (Rorschach Test), Dr. Mike Cox (Forensic
Evaluations), and Dr. Dave Lachar (PIC). The theme of the
Symposium is intended to change for each
offering.
The Symposium was geared to provide a first-rate
continuing education experience for applied psychologists who
need to do periodic continuing education in a setting
conducive to winter sports activity or winter
mountain enjoyment
We are interested in collecting the names and E-mail
addresses of psychologists, psychiatrists, and other
professionals in the health/mental health arena who are avid
skiers or winter sports enthusiasts (or who are simply
interested in good continuing education in a conducive

Currently, our faculty consist of 5 full professors and 9

The following is a short-version translation of the
qualifications needed:
The main themes for this professorship are psychometrics,
data-analysis and research methods within the field of
psychology. Candidates must have comprehensive theoretical
competence as well as practical research competence within
evaluation of candidates.
Duties for the position will be divided between research,
teaching and administration. Currently, teaching and
research will account for about 47% each, and administration
for 6% of the time. Teaching will include about 4 hours of
lecturing per week as well as participation in the
supervision and evaluation of student work at different
levels of study. For all tenured positions there is a
required language proficiency test within two years time for
non-Scandinavian English-speaking candidates.
The salary for full professors is currently
about NOK 300,000($40,000).

FULL-TIME DEPUTY COURSE DIRECTOR
TRAINING COURSE IN CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY (DOCTORAL DEGREE)
The Wessex Regional Training Course in Clinical Psychology
is now part of the Department of Psychology at the
University of Southampton, and will move to the
Highfield campus in 1995. The Course, which now offers a
Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, will have an annual
intake of nine trainees from 1995.
The Deputy Director post requires an experienced
Chartered Clinical Psychologist to work closely with the
Director, Dr Maggie Cormack. The main responsibilities
include the development, planning, organisation, and
monitoring of clinical placements; teaching, research,
and research supervision. The postholder will work closely
with the members of the Course team, healthcare providers,
local district, unit, trust and speciality heads of
service, and current and potential supervisors.
Applications from the fields of childhood and adolescence,
learning disability, older adults are particularly
encouraged, but applicants with other specialities are

8: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, APPLIED BEHAVIORAL ANALYSIS
Institution: California State University, Dept of Psychology

POSITION: The Dept. of Psychology announces one tenure
track position, beginning Sept. 1995, in the area of Applied
Behavior Analysis and Behavioral Medicine/Health Psychology.
QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in Psychology, or a related area,
with a strong emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis is
required. Candidates will be expected to teach graduate and
undergraduate courses in behavior analysis and contribute to
the Department's MS program in Applied Behavior Analysis.
Candidates will also be expected to aid in the development
of a Behavioral Medicine component for the Applied Behavior
Analysis MS program in the areas of their particular
strengths.
Candidates are preferred whose research and professional
interests will serve to establish connections between the
department and theraputic resources in the community. They
must also be qualified and prepared to teach a variety of
undergraduate psychology courses outside of their specialty
including experimental psychogy and basic statistics.
SALARY: Salary is to be determined based on qualifications
and experience. The salary range for an assistant professor
is $32,712 to $45,216.

InterPsych Newsletter Update

Due to problems related to the move to Netcom, release of the
January and February issues of the InterPsych Newsletter was
cancelled. We regret any inconvenience that this has caused.
Starting this month, the newsletter will be back on a regular
distribution schedule - released the third Friday of each month.
This edition of the newsletter contains the Employment section
and Calendar section that would have been contained in the
February issue. A full issue of the newsletter will be released
on March 17th. In several weeks, we will be releasing a special

The Brain Behavior Laboratory and the MHCRC on Regional
Brain Function in Schizophrenia at the Departments of
Psychiatry, Neurology and Radiology, University of
Pennsylvania School of Medicine, have two positions for
Postdoctoral training in Neuropsychology and related
neuroscience fields. This is a Federally-funded training
program with the main focus on neuroimaging applications
to understanding behavior and its aberration in brain
disorders. The Fellowship is renewable for up to 2 years,
and is aimed at preparing matriculants to independent
careers in neuroscience research. The program includes
dydactic work and direect research and clinical experience,
if appropriate, commensurate with trainee's background and
interests. Stipend is determined by NIH guidelines based
on years following the award of degree (range $25-28,000).
