Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness (ASSC) ASSC is the first scholarly and scientific membership organization devoted to the study of consciousness and sister issues. Its aim is promoting rigorous analytic research on consciousness in cognitive science, neuroscience, philosophy, and other relevant disciplines in the sciences and humanities. As you know, the cognitive and brain sciences appear to be at a historic divide in reintroducing consciousness into scientific discourse. Philosophers, who have discussed issues of consciousness for centuries, seem to be coming to new and significant conclusions on the topic. Major breakthroughs in brain imaging, experimental psychology, and cognitive ethology have opened new ways to tackle empirically what has before only been the purview of philosophy. While no one can predict with certainty, the current boom in consciousness studies seems to have a solid enough foundation that we expect it to grow for a number of years. The ASSC web page is the best overall source for information on ASSC activities. Our website has links to a great number of useful resources for those interested in the study of consciousness. SOC-FIX Societal and Relational Caretaking Discussion List The list focus has been changed. The SOC-FIX list is for discussion of how to set limits with anyone who is dependent on you. This can be children, spouse, parents, friends, or associates. Dependency in general can be discussed, as well as alternatives. If you live with someone having a moderate disorder or social problem, SOC-FIX offers support, by sharing with others in similar circumstances. The list is not support for whatever ailment, diagnosis, or condition, but to support those who live with such a person. The list is unmoderated, and is not spiritual. *Subscription* To: LISTSERV@SJUVM.STJOHNS.EDU (message): sub soc-fix Your firstname and lastname Owners: David G.
