Dear visitors,

welcome to the Center for Transnational Relations, Foreign and Security Policy at the Freie Universität Berlin. The Center which was established in 1986 as a center for transatlantic affairs by Prof. Dr. Helga Haftendorn is devoted to studying transnational and international politics in its various aspects. Over the years, the Center has become one of the leading institutions in Germany and Europe for the study of U.S.-European relations.

The events of September 11, 2001, have told us with new urgency that the U.S. and the EU face special responsibilities in global governance. Thus, the Center‘s focus on the transatlantic relationship has been expanded to cover the rise of non-state actors in world politics as well as the new agenda in foreign and security affairs.

Our research and teaching activities, emphasize questions of global governance, such as the new post-Cold War security agenda, human rights and other international norms, the role of non-state actors in world politics and their contribution to governance, as well as international organizations and multilateral negotiations. Details of our activities can be found on this website. Your feedback is very welcome.
