Twice as many years as our ancestors: and the concept of a life plan

Keynote address by Arthur E. Imhof

Distribution of recorded (ICD/9 E950-959) suicides per 100,000 (by age group and sex) in the German Democratic Republic, 1961.

The relative suicide distribution according to age groups and sex seems to remain constant, with an "explosion" in the heighest age groups above 70 or 75 years, especially amongst men. Cf. a similar shape of the figure in 1977, 1984, and 1989.
