This issue includes contributions from the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, on subjects as varied as mobility in Europe, the European Language Portfolio, the training of translators and interpreters in Central and Eastern Europe, and the activities of EUROCALL, the European Association for Computer Assisted Language Learning, an association which is a member of the ELC. The President's report includes information on major new projects and developments within the ELC. In addition brief reports are provided on progress in a number of current ELC projects, including bilingual education, conference interpreting, and training in Information and Communications Technologies for language teachers.
Following a new initiative in the publication of the fifth bulletin, this issue is also available in electronic form on the ELC website, thus making it available not only to the named individuals within member institutions to whom the paper version is sent, but to all those involved in language studies within those institutions, and all those active in ELC projects. The Editorial Board welcomes contributions to future issues, either in the form of 1000 word articles on ELC projects or issues of importance in language learning and teaching at European level, or in the form of brief information or progress reports on activities involving European co-operation in language studies which will be of interest to readers.
