Disclaimer: Sadly Mulder and Scully don't belong to me but they do
belong to 1013 and Fox. I just use them for creative outlet!
"Why do you always feel the need to shout at me?"
Scully turned to look at Mulder confused, she was cold
after standing outside for the funeral for the last few
hours and the car wasn't sending out as much heat as she
hoped.
"Excuse me?"
"When you're trying to prove me wrong, your voice gets
louder and the pitch gets higher."
Scully was trying hard not to get offended by his comment
but she couldn't help it. The statement made her out to
sound like a shrill housewife who was ordering her
husband around. Daniel had mentioned it back in medical
school whenever they argued but she never thought it
would spread into the professional world or when she was
attempting to put her opinions across.
"It doesn't." She felt like she was seven, getting told
off by her mother for shouting at Charlie for drawing all
over her books. She could even feel her pout starting and
her mothers voice that people in jobs don't pout when
they're told something they don't like or something
doesn't go there way. "It was just starting to rain and I
figured you wouldn't be able to hear me. In my opinion it
was productive at the time for me to raise my voice."
Although Mulder's eyes were focused on the road a head of
them, she could tell that he didn't believe anything that
came out of her mouth. Her way of getting her voice heard
came from her childhood, attempting to get the attention
of her mum or dad over the noise of three other children.
Having the highest and loudest voice typically had its
advantages at that age.
"You're wearing eyeliner as well." She wanted to correct
that to was, it had been a long day and her eyes had
started watering as the ash from the smoke got into them.
Although her second thought was why had Mulder picked up
on this, and compliments weren't something that he handed
out on a regular basis if ever. If it was meant to be
taken as a compliment or just a statement.
Scully stared at him for a few moments and then put the
sudden observations down to his degree. He took in a
persons habits and personality and analysed them into
what he desired them to be. Shaking her head at him, she
turned her attention to the side window, watching as farm
lands went past them on the way back to their
accommodation.
She must have fallen asleep some where along the line and
woke when she felt the seat belt moving against her as it
became loose. Taking a few seconds for her mind to clear
up, she looked at Mulder and had the sudden urge to slap
him in the attempt to get that stupid grin off his face.
"I'm taking a shower and then going to bed. We can go
over developments at breakfast tomorrow."
Just as she was about to get out of the car, she turned
to face Mulder again when his hand settled on her arm.
His eyes were staring straight at her, darting all over
her face and features. His brown eyes seemly turning
darker.
"What is it Mulder?"
He seemed to hesitate before he finally spoke, his eyes
paling slightly before he shook his head. "You just
looked good today that's all."
Scully could feel her cheeks blush bright red, muttering
a small thank you before she ducked out of the car,
scrambling to get her things before she had time to
process or accept his statement. Scully didn't even look
back as she closed the hotel door behind her, all she
could hear was her breathing until she heard the door
next door open and close.
Why was she reacting like a teenager? How had seven words
sent her into a spiral?
